Indian Railway is all set to witness a beautiful engineering example in progress.
World’s highest railway bridge
A railway bridge is being constructed over the Chenab River. The bridge is 1,315 metres long and it will stand 359 metres above the river bed. It will be the highest railway bridge in the world.
The highest railway bridge is the biggest civil-engineering challenge faced by Indian Railway Ministry. The 5.6metre piece of metal is fitted at the highest point and linked to the two arch arms that stretch towards each other. This is how it completed the arch shape of the bridge.
Important Details
- The railway bridge arch is 35 metres high than the Eiffel Tower.
- The bridge is made up of 28,660 MT steel, 66,000 Cum Concrete, 210 Lakh Cum Earthwork along with 26 Km motorable roads.
- The bridge arch consists of steel boxes that are filled with concrete. It is used to improve stability.
- The weight of the bridge arch is 10,619 million tonnes.
- For the first time in Indian Railways, the erection of the arch has been done by cable cranes.
- Tekla software is used in detailing the structure.
