UGC allows dual-degree programmes
Recommended for Secondary Grades
UGC (University Grants Commission) chairman, M Jagadesh Kumar has announced that the students will be able to pursue dual degree programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the new academic session.
Dual degree programmes by UGC
The dual degree programme allows the students to pursue two physical undergraduate or postgraduate courses or a combination with online or distance learning courses simultaneously.
The dual degree option will not be mandatory for any university/college. It will come into effect once the statutory bodies at the university approve the UGC guidelines and include the new system in their curriculum.
The dual degree option will apply to all courses and combinations of courses if the university permit. The eligibility, admission and attendance criteria set by the university will have to be followed.
UGC chairman said that the universities have to work on the timetables and exam schedules so that dual degree courses do not crash. The idea of the dual course is to allow flexibility to the students. It will also save their time with the policy of two courses at one time.
