Australian businessman – Kid at heart!

Recommended for Foundational Grades

John-Paul Drake is one of the most well-known businessmen in South Australia. At heart, he is just a little boy. The boss of Drakes Supermarkets, 45, has been quietly collecting toy cars for a long time. John-Paul Drake’s toy car collection has an impressive 718 car models, as well as a stuffed hippo.

Some Hot Wheels cars and other toy sets are on display in a custom-made display case at one of his offices. It was Mr Drake’s idea to put the hippo figurine in the display unit to see if people noticed it. He has worked for the family business for more than 32 years.

A child at heart!

“I’ve always been into cars,” Drake said. There were new cars for him to look for when he went to the stores in his family’s big grocery store chain. He is always looking for cars that he likes or dreamed of having as a child.

There are always new cars and he moves the cars around to put them in different groups. John-Paul Drake’s toy car collection has turned into a really cool art installation.

Never stop dreaming!

Besides, when he shuts the door to his room, a little bit of the cars move. He likes that. Mr Drake also looks in other stores and has a Hot Wheels Collectors membership that gives him early access to new models of the cars he wants.

John-Paul Drake’s toy car collection is a dream come true. And Mr Drake feels that his love for toy car collecting will go on forever. He would always buy new cars and shift some old ones around. There is no doubt about it.
