Kerala jail has started selling food online prepared by inmates.

Kerala jail has started selling food online prepared by inmates.Prison authorities in Kerala have started selling food online through Swiggy, an online food delivery service from 11th July 2019. This food is prepared by jail inmates (prisoners).

The food is being prepared in Viyyur Central Jail.
 	Initially, they plan to sell a biriyani combo priced Rs 127.
 	It would have biriyani rice, roasted chicken leg piece, chappatis, a cupcake, salad, pickle and one litre bottled water, along with a banana leaf to eat the food.
 	Swiggy will be delivering food online within 6 km from the jail premises.

Offline service

Since 2011, offline sale of food is being done through 'Freedom Food Factory'.
 	The jail food has become popular among people for its high quality and low price.

At present, 25,000 chappathis (rotis) and 500 biryanis are sold in a single day, which is prepared by around 100 inmates.

Such initiatives are done as a part of the rehabilitation (restoring someone to normal life through training and therapy) of prisoners.
