Ola Electric and autonomous driving technologies!

Recommended for Secondary Grades

Ola Electric has disclosed that the electric vehicle would be available for purchase by the end of 2023 or the beginning of 2024. Furthermore, Ola’s electric car will be equipped with autonomous driving technologies.

History of autonomous driving technologies!

  • In the 1500s centuries before the invention of the car, Leonardo da Vinci came up with a cart that could move on its own without being pushed or pulled.
  • In 1961, Stanford Cart was the world’s first truly self-driving wheeled car. In 1987, a car called VaMoRs could drive at speeds of up to 60 miles per hour.
  • In 2004, a competition was held to see if cars could navigate 150 miles of desert road on their own. Tesla’s semi-autonomous “Autopilot” feature was released in 2015 and made highway driving hands-free.

Levels of automation!

  • At level 0  there is no automation,  at level 1 automation starts to take over in certain situations, but it doesn’t take over the whole car.
  • Level 3 is where drivers can take their minds off the road, which is called “mind off”. At Level 3, drivers can take a break from the act of driving, but only in certain circumstances. This is usually seen as the first step toward autonomous driving.
  • At Level 4, the vehicle’s self-driving system is able to handle all of the driving functions for routine routes and conditions.
  • Level 5 cars are completely self-driving. It doesn’t even need a driver at all. If you buy a car at Level 5, it might not even have a steering wheel or gas pedals. Passengers could be able to speak commands to set things like the cabin temperature.
