Kami Rita Sherpa scales Mount Everest
Kami Rita Sherpa, a Nepali mountaineer has scaled Mount Everest for the 26th time.
What is Mount Everest?
Mount Everest is Earth’s highest mountain above sea level. It is located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalaya.
Kami Rita climbed Mount Everest for the first time in 1994. His father was the first professional guide after Everest was opened to foreign mountaineers in 1950. Also, Kami Rita’s brother has scaled Mount Everest 17 times.
Climbing the Mount Everest
Kami Rita Sherpa scaled the 8,849-metre mountain on Saturday while leading 10 other Sherpa climbers. Now, the team is descending from the top to the base camp.
He used the climbing route that was used by Sir Edmund Hillary and Nepali sherpa, Tenzing Norgay in 1953. It is still the most popular route to climb Mount Everest.
The Nepali mountaineer holds the record for most climbs over 8,000 metres. He has also scaled the mountain peaks K2 and Lhotse one time each.
This year, Nepal has issued 316 permits to climb Everest during the season. Isn’t this interesting?
