Aussies host NASA’s commercial rocket launch!

Recommended for Middle Grades

NASA’s first rocket launch from a commercial spaceport outside of the United States happened on an unremarkable patch of red dirt in Australia’s outback. The commercial spaceport is the Arnhem Space Centre.

It is expected that the next launch will happen on July 4. NASA has promised to bring back to the United States all of the things that were left behind.

What is Alpha Centauri A and B?

Alpha Centauri is a system of stars and planets bound by gravity. Alpha Centauri A and B are stars that look like the Sun and are part of Alpha Centauri.

Key facts of the rocket launch event!

  • NASA thinks that the launch will make it possible to study the universe in ways that were only possible in the Southern Hemisphere before.
  • Also, it was the first time something like this had been launched in Australia in more than 25 years.
  • NASA will launch three rockets from the recently built Arnhem Space Centre, the first of which is this one.
  • Researchers hope that this will help them figure out how the light from a star affects the chance that planets close to it could support life.
  • People who went to the remote spot to watch the rocket were only able to see it for about ten seconds before it took off and was no longer in their line of sight.
  • The sounding rocket’s time in space was just as short. The 13-meter-long projectile came back to Earth 15 minutes after it was sent into space. But the information gathered by the mission’s X-ray camera during that time will help solve the mysteries of Alpha Centauri A and B.
  • Experts said that the launch went ahead with the permission of the traditional Aboriginal owners of the area.
