Astronomers discover alien planet with 3 suns

Astronomers discover alien planet with 3 sunsAstronomers believe that they've discovered an alien planet with three suns on its horizon.

Scientists found the new planet (which they've called LTT 1445Ab) in data gathered by NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS).

All of the three stars are red dwarfs*. 
 	The system is about 22.5 light-years away from Earth.
 	LTT 1445Ab orbits just one of the three stars. It circles the star every 5 days.

From the TESS data, the scientists believe the planet is rocky and larger than Earth. It is hot on the surface with a temperature up to 160°Celsius.

Soon, astronomers may also be able to tell us about its atmosphere. The stars are located reasonably close to Earth and the system is arranged so that the planet passes between the stars and Earth. Therefore, using telescopes based on Earth, scientists may actually be able to see if any gases surround the plane.

TESS was designed to do exactly this kind of work. It looks for bright stars and planets with short orbits located around nearby.
