China to spend US$150 Billion on 5G in next 6 yearsChina plans to spend US$150 billion on 5G wireless technology in the next six years.

According to the China Internet Report (CIR) 2019, jointly published by South China Morning Post (SCMP) and Abacus, China already owns 3,400 5G patents. This is ahead of South Korea, which has 2,051. The US is third, with 1,368 patents.

Owning the maximum number of patents* will help China become the leader in 5G’s future technological development.

China had officially approved 5G commercial services earlier in June 2019.

Small scale commercial use of 5G tech is expected to start this year in China.
 	By 2025, 28% of China’s mobile connections will operate on 5G networks, which is about a third of all 5G connections globally.

Why is China spending a lot on 5G?

5G technology can speed up automated manufacturing in factories.
 	It can also help China emerge as a world leader in Artificial Intelligence (AI).
 	China’s heavy spending in 5G will also help its economy grow even faster.

Chinese companies like Huawei Technologies are currently having problems with the US. However, China is going ahead with its 5G plans.

Some experts have raised privacy concerns regarding the use of 5G.
