Karim Benzema, who plays football for Real Madrid and France, wins the Ballon d’Or for the first time. The 34-year-old has been on the field for all 46 of Real Madrid’s games.

He helped the team win both the La Liga and the Champions League titles by scoring 44 goals. Since Zinedine Zidane won the award in 1998, Benzema is the first French player to win since then.

He is also the fifth player from France to win the award overall.
