The Man who knew Infinity
Mathematics is present all around us. We can’t even think of a second without it. It’s a way to connect ourselves with the universe. Mathematics is the key of life.
Do you know the reason behind celebrating ‘National Mathematics Day’?
We celebrate it to commemorate the birth anniversary of a great Mathematician, Srinivasa Ramanujan on 22nd December every year. While paying tribute to him our previous P.M. Dr Manmohan Singh in the year 2012 declared this date to be the ‘National Mathematics Day’.
Srinivasa Ramanujan was born in the year 1887 in Erode, Tamil Nadu.
From a very young age he grew an interest in mathematics. Due to his extreme knowledge about maths he was also known as ‘The Man who knew Infinity’.
When G.H. Hardy came to know about Srinivasa Ramanujan’s incredible power of maths he called him to be a student at Cambridge University.
Srinivasa Ramanujan had also created his own theories on fractions, infinite numbers, mathematical analysis etc.
Unfortunately this great mathematician to his last breath on 26th April 1920 at the age of 32.
Now the main aim of ‘National Mathematics Day’ is to remove the Math phobias from every person and increase the love for maths in them.
