Students in Kerala work to revive polluted paddy fieldsThe students of Government Vocational Higher Secondary School in Kadamakkudy, Kerala, are on a great endeavour. Let’s see what they are up to!

Kadamakkudy Islands is located in the backwaters of Vembanad Lake, near Kochi. It is a cluster of fourteen islands and they are known for their green paddy fields.
 	Kadamakkudy Islands is also home to an indigenous rice variety – the Pokkali rice.
 	Unfortunately, with an increase in tourists, the islands are becoming very polluted, especially due to plastic pollution.
 	The paddy fields are becoming garbage dumps, which has affected the fragile paddy field ecosystem.

The students have decided to address this growing problem.

About 75 students of the school have started a cleaning drive to restore and conserve the paddy fields.
 	They are doing this under the guidance of NSS(National Service Scheme) volunteers and coordinator.
 	So far, the students have conducted a cleaning drive along a 2-km polluted stretch of paddy fields.

It's very interesting to see how the students are managing the waste they collect. They reuse the garbage to make ornamental pots, vertical gardens and decorative items out of the plastic waste.
