Srishti paints in a flurry of watercolor and ink. A hushed anticipation during the mangalsutra ceremony, the mischievous grin of a child sneaking sweets, the relief in the bride’s eyes after the rituals are complete – it all flows onto her canvas.
A Growing Canvas: Live Wedding Painting Gains Ground
Live wedding painting might still be a niche trend, but its warmth is spreading. Sanjay, who curated a wedding exhibition, remembers a couple’s joy seeing their journey painted on a canvas.
Prasuna, a former artist from Hyderabad, captures moments most photographs miss: the bride’s arrival in a cane basket, the playful jeelakarra-bellam ritual, even the vibrant energy of guests.
This art form is finding a home in smaller cities too. Dhanushya, a painter from Vijayawada, beams, “Why let bigger cities have all the fun? I create memories right here.” Her textured canvases reflect the dynamic flow of a wedding, and clients treasure them like heirlooms.
But this magic doesn’t happen without effort. Srishti admits the pressure of capturing the action while balancing detail. Curious guests can be a delightful distraction!
