Statue of Unity to host PM Modi’s new event for civil service officers

The Statue of Unity in Gujarat will be the venue for a series of new programmes for newly-appointed Indian civil service officers (IAS, IPS, IFS and IRS).
- This is an initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He aims to motivate the next generation of Indian administrators through this event.
- The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has planned programmes from 27 to 31 October 2019.
- All the newly-appointed civil service officers, top secretaries of the Government of India, World Bank President David Malpass and other visitors will be part of the event.
Important Details
A prominent theme of the workshop is “How to make India a $5-trillion economy by 2024”.
- Mr Malpass will give the keynote speech and address the global economic situation.
- They have also invited other key international academics to address the gathering, on global economic trends.
- This three-day programme is set to become an annual feature for all newly-appointed administrators, starting this year.
The Statue of Unity is a statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel overlooking the Sardar Sarovar dam in Kevadia, Gujarat.
- He was a freedom fighter and independent India’s first Home Minister.
- At a height of 182 metres, it is the tallest statue in the world.
