Khelo India Youth Games to be held in January 2020The 3rd edition of the Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG) 2020 will be held in Guwahati, Assam from 10 to 22 January 2020. They were previously called the Khelo India School Games.

It was announced on 30 November by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. Assam Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal and athletes, such as Hima Das and Swapna Burman were also present at the announcement event.
 	They also launched the mascot, jersey and theme song of the event. The mascots for the games are Jaya the blackbuck and Vijay the tiger.

What is the Khelo India Youth Games?

They are a national level multidisciplinary sports competition for the youth. It aims to find the best young athletes in the country, who the government can support and train for the future.
 	The games are played in 2 categories – Under 17 years for school students and Under 21 years for college students. There are a total of 451 medal events.
 	Some of the sports where students will compete with each other are badminton, swimming, volleyball, basketball, boxing, judo etc.
 	This year, cycling and lawn bowling have also been added to the sporting events.
 	Around 10,000 athletes will participate in 20 sporting categories.
 	The previous games were held in 2018 in New Delhi and in 2019 at Pune. Haryana were the winners in 2018 and Maharashtra in 2019.
