An ‘unspoilt desert beauty‘ – this could be the best description for the most spectacular tourist attraction of Namibia –  Sossusvlei. Namibia is a country in Africa.

Fun facts about Sossusvlei!

  • Sossusvlei is located in the southern part of the Namib Desert, in the Namib-Naukluft National Park of Namibia. The Tsauchab river also ends its flow at Sossusvlei.
  • Sossusvlei is a large, white, salt and clay pan surrounded by large red dunes.
  • The dunes in this area are almost 400 metres high. You can see some of the highest dunes in the world in Sossusvlei.
  • These dunes are approximately 1 billion years old and many of them have solidified into rock.

  • Sesriem Canyon, Dune 45, Hiddenvlei and Deadvlei are some of the other attractions near to Sossusvlei.
  • Sossusvlei is one of the most photographed places in Subsaharan Africa due to its picturesque beauty.
