Star Wars Day – May the Fourth be with you!

Recommended for Foundational Grades

Happy Star Wars Day! Today (4 May) celebrates the Star Wars media franchise.

Star Wars was created by American film director George Lucas. It started with the film Star Wars in 1977. Since then, it has become widely popular, with numerous films, video games, TV series, books and even theme park attractions.

What is Star Wars about?

  • It is about the adventures of characters “A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away”, where aliens and robots exist and space travel is common.
  • Here, a mysterious power known as ‘the Force’ gives a few people the ability to have superpowers (like moving things without touching them). Warriors who use ‘the Force’ to fight for good are called Jedi while evil Force-users are called Sith.

Why do we say “May the Fourth be with you” on this day?

The phrase is a play on the phrase “May the Force be with you” which is often said in the films, which is combined together with today being 4th May. Many Star Wars fans across the world started celebrating this day before it was official, but now, it is.
