‘The Leap’ By Meena, Setu Shikhsha
From April itself, we started online classes. We used multiple means to reach out to students. We used WhatsApp, Google meets classroom app and conference calls to start their online classes.
In my opinion the top challenge with our students’ families is a shortage of devices including phone re-charge. Besides this, some parents do not have knowledge of the importance of online education.
There were a lot of hardships in the beginning. Some teachers could not have one to one discussions with students and parents to understand students’ problems. Some parents showed a good response to the new online system but a few parents are not accepting it. Some students have shown amazing response but a few students do not respond well due to lockdown and their family financial issues. I think the impact on learning outcomes of children has been fantastic, Students are more creative and enthusiastic than before.
My biggest fear is with those students whose parents are not well-to-do and may have to migrate to the care of native land, the studies will become secondary for them.
Online education seems to be the new normal. After six months or one year students will learn more and I’m sure this online system will help in extra knowledge gaining when classroom education will start.
After school students can connect with their concerned teachers to solve their problems of the curriculum. We need funds to provide laptops with cameras and space for the school.
At this stage, parents, students and teachers need to appreciate each others’ work and role.
