Smart tech to help save the world’s honey bees

We have read before that honey bee populations are falling across the world. This is a big concern as honey bees are very important to agriculture and our food supply.

In the bee industry, honey bees are used not just to make honey. Millions of beehives are also rented out to farmers who use them to pollinate their farms. Pollination is the process by which pollen is transferred from plant to plant. This is the process by which fruits and crops are grown.

However, climate change, chemicals, etc are killing off many of the world’s bees.

So, here are some companies creating smart tech that could help save the world’s honey bees.

ApisProtect

An Irish technology company called ApisProtect has launched a sensor that alerts beekeepers if there is a problem in their hives. It records the temperature, sound, movement, etc of the bees. This data is sent back to the company which analyses it for any problems.

OSBeehives

Another company called OSBeehives has developed a device called BuzzBox. This device uses artificial intelligence to inspect the beehive’s health. It then reports updates to the owner’s mobile app every 30 minutes.

Pollenity

A company called Pollenity in Bulgaria, Europe has also created a “robot bee“. This bee helps other bees find the best places for pollen and nectar. The robot bee directs the bees away from dangerous places like where chemicals are being used.
