Are ‘Exit Polls’ indicators of Indian Parliament of 2019-2023?

Exit poll results for 2019 general elections are out

Most of the exit polls predict a majority win for the National Democratic Alliance(NDA).
 	An aggregate of exit polls reflects that Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) - led NDA will win 302 of 542 Loksabha seats. The Congress and its allies are expected to win around 122 seats.
 	Exit polls are also predicting a huge victory for NDA in major states such as Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh.
 	Indian Stock Exchange went up by 1,400 points and Indian Rupee became stronger against the dollar, with this news.
 	Opposition parties like Congress, TCP, Telugu Desam Party did not agree with the results of exit polls and reiterated that actual results would be quite different.

What is an Exit Poll?

An exit poll is a survey of voters. The survey is done on the voters, immediately after they exit the polling stations.
 	Exit polls are conducted by various organisations/media.
 	Exit polls give a broad idea on the emotions of voters towards various political parties.
 	Exit polls are not accurate and are just estimates.

According to Section 126A of the Representation of the People's Act, 1951, "No person shall conduct any exit poll and publish or publicise by means of the print or electronic media or disseminate in any other manner, whatsoever, the result of an exit poll during such period as may be notified by the Election Commission in this regard."

For 2019 general elections, in March, EC had notified that exit polls can be conducted, only after the completion of all 7 phases of elections i.e. 19th May 2019.
