A startup is building a hypersonic jet that will fly at 5 times the speed of sound

Aerospace company Hermeus Corporation has announced plans to develop a plane that will travel at 5 times the speed of sound

With that speed, passengers could be transported between New York and London in 90 minutes
 	As of now, air travel between London and New York takes more than 7 hours

So air travel time would reduce from 7 hours to 1.5 hours!

This U.S. based startup has investors, who are funding the development of this hypersonic* plane.

Their mission is to increase the speed of air transportation over long distances
 	They are working on vehicles that can fly at Mach 5 — which is 5 times the speed of sound
 	Mach 1 is the speed of sound traveling through Earth's atmosphere

Many others have ventured into hypersonic travel

Last year Boeing unveiled plans for a hypersonic passenger plane
 	Lockheed Martin and Aerion Corporation are also working to create hypersonic aircraft
 	2 years ago, Boom Technology partnered with Virgin Galactic's Richard Branson to create a carrier that could reach Mach 2.2

If successful, the Hermeus' plane would be twice as fast as the supersonic* carrier Concorde*.
