Max the 'Miracle Dog' is a famous dog living in the Lake District of England. He is 13 years old and is a therapy dog. This means he is trained to provide affection and comfort to people.
Therapy dogs are usually pets of other people. Recently, Max 'the Miracle Dog' was awarded the PDSA Order of Merit award. This is a very famous award given to animals for helping people. Max is the first pet to receive this award.
Before him, it had been given only to service dogs. Service dogs (like police dogs) are working animals. They have been trained to help disabled people. They are not considered to be pets.
The COVID-19 pandemic
Since 2017, Max 'the Miracle Dog' has met more than 10,000 people, giving them love and affection. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also "walked" with people online through Facebook Live, cheering them up.
