Philippines ships back the waste received from Canada

Philippines has decided to go forward with their plan to forcibly ship back the truckloads of garbage to Canada.

Background:

103 shipping containers were delivered to the Philippines from Canada by a private Canadian company, in 2013 and 2014, marked falsely as recyclable materials.
 	During an inspection by Philippines authority, it was found that the containers contained around 2500 tons of household waste, including plastic bottles and used adult diapers which are not recyclable.
 	Canada did not respond actively and take the containers back. They have missed their deadline of 15th May to pick the trash back.
 	Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has disapproved Canada's approach and ordered that the trash should be returned immediately. Philippines has decided to ship back the garbage at their own expense.
 	Duterte said that he is even ready to “declare war” over the trash.

Canada's response is against the Basel Convention.

Basel Convention

It is an international treaty signed by the nations to control the transboundary (across boundaries) movements of hazardous wastes and regulate their disposals.

The developed countries have been using developing nations to dump their wastes for recycling. While developing nations do not have infrastructure and facilities to do the same.
