Indian writer Annie Zaidi wins global book prize

Indian writer Annie Zaidi wins global book prizeAnnie Zaidi was announced as the 2019 winner of the Nine Dots Prize on 29th May.

The Nine Dots Prize is awarded for  innovative thinking on topics, related to current issues around the world
 	Annie won for her essay titled ‘Bread, Cement, Cactus’.
 	It talks about 'home' and 'belonging', based on her experience of life in India.
 	She will receive prize money worth US$ 100,000.

Who is Annie Zaidi?

She is a freelance writer from Mumbai.
 	She has written essays, short stories, poetry and plays.
 	As a winner of the Nine Dots Prize, she will be supported to develop her winning essay into a full-length book.
 	The book will be published by Cambridge University Press.

The Nine Dots Prize is funded by the Kadas Prize Foundation, established by Peter Kadas.

The name "nine dots" comes from a puzzle that can only be solved by drawing outside of a box of 9 dots arranged in 3 rows of 3.
