KFC is set to launch a vegan ‘chicken’ burger in the UK

KFC is set to launch a vegan ‘chicken’ burger in the UKThe fast-food chain KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) will be launching a vegan version of its signature crispy chicken burger in the United Kingdom.

The burger is called "The Imposter". It will be sold at a few restaurants for four weeks starting 17th June.
 	The burger uses a Quorn fillet and vegan* mayonnaise (Quorn is a meat substitute that gets its protein content from a fermented fungus and vegan mayonnaise does not include eggs).
 	Animal rights groups praised KFC for offering the vegan burger.

KFC is the latest restaurant chain and food producer which is producing meat-substitute* products.

Earlier, Burger King had launched "The impossible Whopper" - a meat-substitute burger in Missouri, US. It was so popular that they expanded its sale to four more cities in the US.
 	Two years ago, McDonald's had launched the burger "McVegan" in Sweden and Finland. In May this year, McDonald's launched the burger"Big Vegan TS" in Germany, one of its biggest international markets.

The demand for meat-substitute products is growing rapidly.
Other meat-substitute producers in the market include Beyond Meat and Nestle.

*Vegan: A diet which includes only plant and soy products; no meat or dairy products (refer to link for more details).

*Meat-substitute: Products that are made to look or taste like meat but are made of vegetables etc.
