Europe makes speed limiters for all cars mandatory from 2022

Europe makes speed limiters for all cars mandatory from 2022The European Union has come to the agreement that all new vehicles in Europe will have the Intelligent Speed Assistance (ISA) system from 2022.

The ISA uses GPS to detect the speed limit of the road the car is travelling on.
 	If the car is going faster than the speed limit, the ISA automatically reduces the engine power of the car. This brings the speed down without applying brakes.
 	Vehicles must also have data recorders (like the aeroplane's black box) and reversing cameras (video cameras in the car to help you see behind when the car is going backwards).
 	The European Parliament will now ratify* this agreement, most likely by September 2019.

The Concerns

There are concerns that drivers will become too relaxed and less focused on road conditions.
 	Road signs, speed limits as well as road conditions, are not the same across Europe. This may affect the use of technology.

The company Volvo also plans to install cameras in its cars to check if the driver is drowsy (sleepy) or under the influence of alcohol and stop the car if that is the case.
