Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also are trying to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.
So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with the brains behind the Tattwa Centre of Learning. ‘Tattwa’ which means essence and truth, is futuristic in its vision. The Tattwa Centre of Learning was started by a team of experienced teachers. They were led by Kamakshi Balakrishnan, Founder Principal of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, and Chinmaya Vidyapeeth (College), Maya Mohan, former Principal of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala, Ms Rema Jayaram and Dr Shailaja Menon former Head of Department of Management, Chinmaya Vidyapeeth (College).

Located in Girinagar, Kochi, it is an educational venture, which was founded in June 2016 by seasoned educators who wanted to give an impetus to alternative forms of schooling. The founders envisioned a format where they could implement new instructional techniques to give individualized care to learners who want flexibility and choice in education. It was designed to help children learn at their own pace. It aspires to be a learning organization aimed at developing lifelong learners. The students are a diverse group including intelligent, talented children wanting something different, and also those who want a flexible study schedule.
This required the school to be different and they could not align themselves with the CBSE and other state or International Boards. It would be interesting to note that the school utilizes the platform of the National Institute of Open Schooling Board (NIOS). And it offers an interesting mix of subjects that helps students to follow their passion in the field of their choice.
The aim of the founders was to give students a well-rounded personality and make them at par with students of other boards. So this is how they treated their curriculum and methodology. The subjects, besides being both conventional and unconventional, ranging from Mass Communication to Painting, are balanced by a totally new approach to education. Traditional forms such as yoga, the arts, training methodology, and skills development are blended so that students can cope with and face the challenges of contemporary society.
The team at Tattwa takes education for a Sustainable 21st Century very seriously. The urge to improvise, to adapt and yet retain some elements of traditional education underlines the need to come up with innovative methods in education. ‘Art in Education’ is one such innovation and it has taken on a mainstream hue, emphasizing the need to sensitise children to the degradation of the environment through art.
Regular drama classes, communication skills development programmes, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, financial literacy and digital marketing have ensured an all-round development. Football, yoga and all sports form are a part of the curriculum in the NIOS Board school. Value education is a very important part of the Tattwa curriculum as it aids students to cope with the stresses of life today so that they combat them with equanimity.
Tattwa is also a Centre for Learning strategies and teaching practices. They hope to train more teachers with newer formats of teaching to adapt to the needs of the hour. They intend to strive to ensure that this endeavor will trigger an interest in the teaching profession and bring back the joy and creativity of learning, besides offering society a choice in the field of education.
The school has in its four years of its existence moulded aspirational youngsters into well-grounded and capable citizens.
