Om Birla is the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha

Om Birla is the new Speaker of the Lok SabhaBJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) MP Om Birla will be the new Speaker of the Lok Sabha.

He has been elected today, 19th June, after he was chosen by the ruling NDA (National Democratic Alliance).
 	He is the MP (Member of Parliament) of the Kota-Bundi constituency of Rajasthan in the Lok Sabha. This is his second time as MP.
 	Previously, Mr. Birla has been a three-term MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) in the Rajasthan Assembly.

Speaker of the Lok Sabha

The Speaker is the presiding* officer of the Lok Sabha and is elected for a term of five years.
 	The Speaker is chosen from the elected MPs of Lok Sabha and is usually a member of the ruling party or coalition.
 	The Speaker conducts the daily sessions in Lok Sabha and maintains discipline and decorum* in the house.
 	The Speaker presides* over any joint-meeting of both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

*Preside/Presiding: To be in charge of a formal meeting, ceremony, or trial

*Decorum: Behaviour that is socially correct, calm, and polite
