2021 US Open: 18-year-old Carlos Alcaraz creates record

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

We have read that the 2021 US Open is underway. This tennis tournament started on 24 August and will end on 12 September.

As the tournament reaches the quarter-final stage, things are heating up.

In men’s singles, Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic beat American player Jenson Brooksby to reach the round of 8. He is only 3 wins away from a Calendar Grand Slam (winning all four grand slams in the same calendar year). He will face Italian player Matteo Berrettini in the next round. Alexander Zverev is also through to the next round.

Moreover, 18-year-old Spanish player Carlos Alcaraz Garfia has also become the youngest man since 1963 to reach the round of eight of the US Open. He won a stunning victory over world No. 3 Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the quarterfinals.

Women’s singles

In women’s singles, defending champion Naomi Osaka lost in the third round in a shock defeat to 19-year-old Canadian player Leylah Annie Fernandez. Fernandez is through to the quarterfinals of the US Open and will face Elina Svitolina. Moreover, current French Open champ Barbora Krejčíková is also through to the quarterfinals.
