Each child is special. Their uniqueness lies, as much as in their skills and talents, as in their questions, imaginations and sense of wonder. Some children may be good in sports, some in arts, some in science or some in business. Some are orators, others dreamers, some loud and expressive, some shy and conservative. But each child has something special to offer to this world. We believe in the narrative ‘Each Child is Special’.

The UN celebrates World Children’s Day on 20 November while in India, Children’s Day is celebrated on 14 November. This date is the birth anniversary of India’s First Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru who believed that children are the real strength and foundation of a nation. We at Curious Times too believe that the holistic development of children is the first step in building a better world and we strive every day to do just that. We are also in constant engagement with the education community – students, teachers and educators. It is our cherished goal to make a meaningful contribution to the community by working and interacting with leaders in the field.

And so, this Children’s Day, Curious Times is delighted to bring you a special message from an eminent educator and administrator, Prema Muralidhar. She is the Principal of Woodlem Park School, UAE.

Today, as we still grapple with the effects of a global pandemic, we cannot fail to realize its impact on children, their childhood, and how they are struggling to embrace life as it is at present.

As parents, our children are the hope of future generations and raising them well is one of the most significant things that we can ever achieve, and as educators, it’s our utmost duty to mould them in ways that make them responsible members of society and better human beings.

In corroboration with an African adage that says ” it takes a village to raise a child, ” since we all know that the transient gift of childhood is given only once, it is therefore not far-fetched to say that we are ‘ the village’ and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that we cultivate positively nurturing environments so that the younger generation do not miss out on healthy and wholesome childhood development.

Children’s Day gives us a perfect opportunity to reflect on these precious gifts that God has given to us and not only to think of worthwhile ways to make meaningful impacts on their lives but to also act on them expediently.

We must never fail to realize that our children are the building blocks of our society and products of their upbringing. Thus, we must consistently provide them with the right scaffolding to help them grow in an optimistic manner.

Let us fully appreciate them and their resilience in the face of many challenges and continue individually and collectively to serve as epitomes worthy of their emulation.

14th November is always celebrated as Children’s Day all over India to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and on this special occasion of Children’s Day, I would like to extend my warmest greetings to all children – home and abroad.

May we celebrate this day with them joyfully and join hands in collaboration to instil the right values, build stronger foundations, a safer world and a brighter future for our children.

Happy Children’s Day and best wishes to you!

Many thanks to Prema Muralidhar, Woodlem Park School, UAE, for sharing her thoughts on Curious Times. Wishing Happy Children’s Day to all the students of Woodlem Park School, UAE.
