Omicron is spreading faster than other variants: COVID-19 update

Omicron(B.1.1.529) virus is spreading faster than any other reported variants across the globe.

India Update of COVID-19 and omicron:

  1. The omicron variant is spreading faster than the delta variant and it is infecting the fully vaccinated people as well.
  2. Omicron cases have been detected in 11 states and union territories which include Maharashtra, Delhi, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Telangana.
  3. All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) director Dr Randeep Guleria, says that India should prepare itself for every kind of situation that comes up. He said this with respect to the rising cases in the United Kingdom.

Effects of omicron spread

  1. The news of omicron has affected the stock market, as its spread can lead to a slowdown.
  2. The schools are closing again in many places. Businesses are also facing slowness.
  3. The travel industry is already affected because the flights to foreign countries are closed due to the omicron spread. RT-PCR tests and 14-days home quarantine are being made compulsory.
  4. It is said to lessen the effects of the vaccines that are already provided to people.

World update for omicron:

  1. The United Kingdom recorded a total of 25,000 omicron cases, and the UK government fears the arrival of the third wave of COVID-19.
  2. The United States of America has recorded a high rise in omicron cases. The US government fears that it can spread a wave of infections that can affect the US health care system.
  3. The Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas, the world’s largest cruise ship, has reported 48 COVID-19 cases. The ship has 6,000 passengers and all of them boarded the ship from Miami.
