Amidst fuel protests in Kazakhstan, Prime Minister resigns

The rise in fuel prices has given birth to protests in Kazakhstan, formerly part of the Soviet Union. Thousands of people protested against the hike in fuel prices in the oil-producing country.

The protestors took Almaty airport under their control. It led to the introduction of an emergency in Kazakhstan. The emergency will be active until 19th January.

Amidst the protests, internet services in the country are closed since Tuesday. The president of Kazakhstan has called the protests a black period in the history of the country.

Resignation of the Kazakhstan government

Amidst the protests, the protestors put the administration building on fire in Almaty. As a result, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, Askar Mamin has resigned from the office.

President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting keeping the political and economic situations in mind.  Moreover, he sought help from the military alliance when protestors captured Almaty airport which included five aircraft.
