Sweden’s Icehotel gets its 32nd makeover

Recommended for Preparatory Grades

Sweden’s Icehotel is rebuilt for 32nd time.

Everything that turns old needs a makeover to make it look beautiful. Such is the story of the ice hotel in Jukkasjärvi, Sweden.

Icehotel in Sweden

This Icehotel is made of snow and ice. It is rebuilt every year and every new version is more beautiful than the previous version. This year, it is the 32nd version of the Icehotel and it is open to guests until 17th April 2022.

The Icehotel was founded by Yngve Berquist in 1989 when he organized an art show. Some people requested to spend the night in the igloo. The people were given sleeping bags. This is how Icehotel was born.

How is the Icehotel constructed?

The Icehotel is constructed from 100 tons of ice and 30,000 tones of since(mixture of snow and ice). This hotel covers an area of over 5,500 square meters.

The ice is taken from the Torne River in Sweden. It is kept in cold storage until November. After that, 100 workers and artists work to make a new structure of the Icehotel. It gets ready and open for visitors by mid-December.

Icehotel’s new version 2022

The new version of the Icehotel consists of 36 rooms. It includes 12 art suites. The highlight of this year is the Different Natures suite. Look at the picture below.

This suite is decorated with massive ice blocks and water shapes. This suite provides a nature experience to the visitors.

Rates of Icehotel

Staying in the Icehotel is not cheap. The basic rooms close around $400 while the luxury rooms cost up to $900. Moreover, the temperature in the rooms is set to minus 5 degrees centigrade. That’s too chilly.

The guests are advised to sleep in their thermal sleeping bags. They are also told to wear gloves and hats throughout the night.

Food and Activities

Icehotel has a single restaurant that serves gourmet food. The drinks in the restaurant are always chilled in the Icebar. The guests can also take part in many fun activities including snowshoeing, moose or snowmobile safari. They can also do snow camping. Isn’t this amazing to read about?

This Icehotel will melt in April, and the visitors have to wait for another 8 months to visit this beautiful place. This is our story about the 32nd makeover of the Icehotel in Sweden.
