Sano positions itself as the home of cricket in Japan

Sano positions itself as the home of cricket in JapanSano is a quiet and small town just 80 km from Japan's capital city, Tokyo.

It is sparsely (thinly) populated and doesn't have much tourism or business.
 	But now, it has Japan's first international standard cricket ground on its outskirts and is calling itself the home of cricket in Japan.
 	The Sano International Cricket ground opened in 2016.

The Japan Cricket Association chose Sano as it has relatively flat land, is close to Tokyo.
 	Sano's mayor Masahide Okabe was also looking for ways to revive the town - and cricket with billions of fans was a perfect opportunity to explore.
 	 The town hopes to host international cricket players, matches and spectators in the near future.

Until recently, cricket was not a well-known sport in Japan. In fact, some people thought it was a type of biscuit!

Japan has recently qualified to play in the under-19 cricket world cup next year for the first time.
 	Japan Cricket Association has also managed to introduce cricket into the regular curriculum of 6 local schools.
