AI in the World of Education
AI’s Ubiquity in Modern Life
Artificial Intelligence has made its way to each aspect of Human Life. A few years ago, it made an impact on Consumer Technology. In the digital age, every online action generates valuable user data, turning personal information into a highly sought-after asset. Now the question is how does this work? When someone searches for a specific product on Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, or other e-commerce websites, then this data is analyzed and stored by AI. This data is used to give prompts and recommendations to showcase similar products to the users/consumers that fit their interests. Thus, they enhance the user’s interest and encourage the user to explore and make additional purchases.
Emergence of AI in Education
Earlier this year, ChatGpt created a buzz in the market about the content and research work, qualifying for the law exam in the USA. Then we heard about its competitor Bard. The education system progresses keeping in view the age of the child and the grade he/she should be in. The standard system is that at a particular age, the student is in a particular grade and all students of a grade study the same content at the same difficulty level.
Personalizing Education with AI
Psychology says that every child is unique but in the education system everyone has to read the same syllabus till a particular level. A student’s academic progress is measured based on a few sets of periodic or cyclic tests and then term tests which are meant for all students of his/her age. With the advent/ intervention and integration of AI in the present education system, the potential academic progress of students could be revolutionized.
The Future of Learning with AI
The day when machine learning in education is implemented is not far. The students would be identified as beginner, average, and above average. According to the grasping power of the students, AI would create learning modules, divide the extensive syllabus into chunks and differentiate the concepts easily understood by the student from the concepts that are tough for them to crack, create tests, assess the students, evaluate them, and update the goal achieved.
Benefits and Challenges
Thus, every child would get a flexible pattern of understanding the concepts and their application. The tailored modules and lessons would bring in a personalized approach, thus the knowledge to be imparted would be retainable, relatable, and digestible. The continuous and adaptative approach of AI that keeps track of learning progress would be more beneficial to students who are below average and need regular intervention. The plan of learning and modules to be understood would be updated from time to time as the child would show improvement.
Students can focus on mastering one concept before heading to the next one. AI would track the goals set for the students and provide a clear picture of concepts to be improved and also ways how to fill in the learning gaps and retain the concepts. This is the future of AI in education. The only challenge is that the students themselves have to understand that integrating AI into education is for their benefit or that a sense of self-motivation is required. Here at this point, however, the involvement of the educators and elders is required, when they can check the comprehensive studies by the students and they can continuously guide the students, inspire them to complete the modules and attain their objectives.
Innovations with AI in Education
Very soon AI – Artificial Intelligence will have a pivotal role in the field of Education. It would impact the education system in the entire world positively and would bring a remarkable change in the education of students plus it would also contribute to assisting the educators. Starting with planning, setting the timetable for the students, solving the questions, conducting the tests, and assisting in completing the assignments would be soon observed. Apart from this, the AI would also continuously check on the time for studying, going out to play, completing the assignment, mental stress, emotional quotient, and social quotient of a child. Child psychology says that a human touch is required but these AI tools will be such that they will artificially make the kind of modules and programs that would be helpful to the students knowing about their drawbacks in particular subjects, the ways the child can learn them and the easy ways to grasp the concepts.
AI will also help educators in correcting the answer sheets, automated grading, setting the question papers, framing questions, and making quizzes. In competitive exams, the MCQs are checked within seconds by the computer, and results are declared within a few days. But now, research is being done on how AI would contribute to correcting theoretical papers and later on creating data for the students and parents to understand the areas of improvement. This would help the students to understand their mistakes and grasp the concepts. AI would increase the productivity of students and educators and trainers. These are a few exciting innovations possible using AI in the education system.
AI’s Limitations and the Essence of Human Touch
As we delve into this realm, all these achievements look very fascinating and we human beings are proud of them. AI is appreciated in every nook and corner of the earth and there is no doubt that it would have a positive impact, a vital role, and significant growth of a child in education as far as his/ her education is concerned. There are many challenges though like – internet connectivity, personal data privacy loss/harm, ethical concerns, and balancing human and machine connection- to name a few. At the end of the day, human touch is always required that would create a balance between the child’s social and emotional growth and well-being.
Conclusion
In conclusion, AI may enhance the education system from an academic learning perspective, however, for the holistic social and emotional development of a child, the personal touch of an educationist is a must. Let us understand that Artificial Intelligence can assist in improving the conceptual learning of subjects however a human being is not just about the brain and should also behave appropriately in society with others. This critical aspect of social intelligence can only be developed by being with other human beings and living things including plants and animals. Let us hope that we maintain a keen focus on this important aspect of the human touch when we integrate AI into education.
