AICTE launches model curriculum based on NEP

AICTE launches model curriculum based on NEP.

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) was set up in November 1945. It conducts surveys on facilities available for technical education.

AICTE has launched a new model curriculum(syllabus) based on the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP). Though AICTE had introduced the first model curriculum in 2017, now they have revised the new syllabus. The new curriculum holds all the pointers defined in the NEP 2020.

Main objective of NEP 2020

The main objective of the National Education Policy is to ensure that every child gets the Right to Education. Let’s look at the following features of the NEP 2020.

  1. To give equal importance to all subjects, which include Art and languages.
  2. NEP ensures that no child loses any opportunity to learn because of their background. Everyone should be equal and they have the right to learn.
  3. National Education Policy has introduced a system where the schools and colleges will allow the students to choose the subjects based on their interests as well. For example, an engineering student should also be able to study economics or design, along with their major subjects.

AICTE has launched a model curriculum, as of now. This model syllabus is important, but it is not necessary to implement as it is. The school boards and universities can make changes in the curriculum as per their wish.

AICTE model curriculum

AICTE model curriculum includes the topics in the various subjects including Degree and Diploma courses. The books for the courses are underlined in the suggested format by AICTE. But these are just suggestive options. Also, there is space for improvement.

Courses in the new model curriculum

  1. Undergraduate and Postgraduate Engineering courses: AICTE has launched new curriculum from the undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It includes the courses for Engineering & Technology, Bachelor of Architecture(B.Arch), Biotechnology, Planning and automobiles. They have also launched model question papers, so that students can prepare well for their examinations.
  2. Diploma courses: AICTE has launched Diploma courses for students of Engineering and Technology. The diploma courses vary from 6 months to three years. Diploma in Civil Engineering, Mechanical and Chemical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Electrical and Electronic Engineering have been introduced by AICTE. It includes both the lectures and practical sessions for the students. Attending the lectures and practicals will help the students earn credits.
  3. Vocational courses: Vocational courses include Entreprenueurial Degree and Diploma courses. The curriculum for the vocational courses includes Software development, Graphics & Media, Food Processing, Banking Services and many other subjects. Model papers are also launched for vocational courses.
  4. Introductory Programming course: Now, everything around us has digitized. The students are taking their classes online and the professionals also spend a lot time online. It is important for the students that they should know basic programming concepts. AICTE has kept it in mind and has introduced Introductory programming courses to be incorporated in the curriculum.
  5. M.Tech Defence Technology Courses: Model curriculum in Defence Technology has been introduced by AICTE. This is the curriculum for M.Tech students.

AICTE issues books in regional languages

AICTE has also issued books in regional languages. This is a step for the students who had to leave their studies due to the pandemic. This is of advantage to the students who don’t know English. The books are issued for students of all classes. They can now pursue their dreams and study well.

You can see the model syllabus at the website link of AICTE.
