Aya – A poem
Aya
(Arabic for “a sign from God”)
An Earthquake.
The terrorising sound of crumbling concrete
Despair.
Spreading as cracks on the ground of hope
Grey.
An unsettling shade of dull creeps in
Silence.
The sound of rain echoes as an aftermath
Sunrise.
Creeps in as if nothing ever happened
Cracks.
Still deep as reminders of despair
Odd one out.
A speck of colour catches the eye
Out of the cracks, Grows a tiny flower
The flower, of hope…
(Aya – A Syrian baby girl whose mother died after giving birth to her under the rubble of their home during the earthquake.)
