My Expressions

Curious Times in conversation with Deepika Pathak

I am an enthusiastic educator for the past 15 years as an English teacher. Currently, I am working in Abu Dhabi in Shining Star International School as a School Activity Coordinator. I believe that a child's mind is like clay and as an educator, the responsibility to shape them lies on our shoulders.

As an English language teacher, reading is always my first interest and passion. Apart from it, I love dancing, singing and learning new things. I believe being myself is my strength, and as an educator, I always believe in my students and trust their capabilities. I think the future is in the children’s hands and as an educator, I have to be more responsible towards them.

What inspired you to become an educator?

My inspirations are my parents and my English teacher, as she supported me for who I am today and inculcated the values in me.

What do you love the most about being a teacher?

As a teacher, I always feel good when my students feel excited about my class. Also, the smiles on their faces when they see me, it boosts me up.

The one change you would like to bring in the current education system.

We need to teach our children with real life examples because what they learn from the books will not prepare them as a global citizen. But, the things they will learn from real life situations will help them to build their personality that everyone wants to see in a global citizen.

Your message to your 21st-Century-students.

Always believe in yourself. Never think that you're not capable or good for the people. You are the best in your own way and that is what will make you different. As a 21st century student, always be curious to learn new things because learning will build your confidence. Always challenge yourself and try new things.

A special story, memory or message that you want to share.

I have lot of memories, but the best memory is when your students make you feel special and different from others. Always trust yourself, be confident in what you do and believe it. Take this world as a place to grow not as a field of battle. Do take part in the challenges that life puts forward, but don't think to win always. Sometimes, when we fail, we learn a lot of things. Be curious because the one who is curious is always a great learner.
