My Expressions

Curious Times in conversation with Divya Dabas

The pursuit of excellence with unrestrained passion can lead to the accomplishment of wonders with unsurpassed joy. Being an educationalist, I ponder that the most efficacious way of making a difference is to lead by an example. Therefore, I indulge myself in the process of learning for overall development of my personal and professional growth. I'm an English honors graduate from Lakshmibai college, Delhi University. I completed my B. Ed with first division from M. T. College, Maharshi Dayanand University. Presently, I'm pursuing Masters in English from IGNOU. Currently, I am working as TGT English at Indraprastha Convent School, Delhi, India.

In my spare time, I like to watch theatre & plays since the calmness of the course is a great way to relax after a long week of work. I also have been trying my hand at fiction writing. The self-expression present in fiction keeps my creativity flowing and keeps my mind active. For maintaining balance between professional & personal life, I like to pursue mediation. It strengthens my abilities. I’m trying my hand in graphic designing. Photography is my leisure pursuit. I have a commendable communication & writing skills. Confidence, leadership, versatility, flexibility, enthusiasm, determination, adaptability , hardwork , passion, optimism & patience are my  strengths. I love my ability to upgrade my mindset with time. Like we say no one is perfect, we do make mistakes, we do have misconceptions, but once when I realize what I think about this situation is wrong. I upgrade my thinking, I don’t stick to that mentality because of ego or past embarrassment. I am bold enough to accept myself fully and to keep myself open to any positive changes.

What inspired you to become an educator?

For me, it was my father, who asked me to try this splendid field. Initially, I was not interested in it, neither I was an educationalist material. I extend my gratitude to Mr. Ishwar Singh Yadav (Manager of Indraprastha Convent School) who gave me an opportunity to try my hand in education sector. My mother, had given me motivation and support for attaining milestones and one of my uncles is responsible for what I am today. He always told me to be a brand in every domain. I like to thank my dearest mentor, Mrs. Nitisha Yadav (Principal of Indraprastha Convent School) for being a strong pillar of strength, no matter what I do. Her affectionate behavior has always motivated me to perform best. Her hindsight is always my foresight.

What do you love the most about being a teacher?

Being an educator allows me to keep learning and growing in knowledge. I can encourage children to dream – Dreams lead to big ideas—which can lead to innovations and changes for the future. A teacher can inspire kids to think beyond their comfort zones and challenge them to reach their fullest potential.

The one change you would like to bring in the current education system.

I prefer that educationalists should emphasis more on being qualitative and building all rounders, so that a strong nation can be formed.

Your message to your 21st-Century-students.

21st century learning is the constellation of learner characteristics which equips students to enjoy a high quality of life, work and relationships. The students should be resilient, intentional, creative and confident learners who understand the value of collaboration, the relationship of effort to results and the need to be continually grow and learn. I want students to establish themselves as per above module.

A special story, memory or message that you want to share.

The Year 2020 saw disruption in the global education system like no other year in our living memory. COVID-19 created a plethora of problems but also brought new opportunities and opened doors to innovation in the Education Sector. The silver lining in this disruption is that as a sector we did not adhere to the“dogmas of the past”. Instead, the entire education sector came together and thought anew and acted anew. Being an educationalist, it's quite tough for me to adapt but I learnt to sail my ship in that disastrous storm. Earlier, I was just concerned with my teaching but this year polished me a lot in the digital world. I learnt new techniques, strategies, tools, graphic designing, marketing, video editing. And now, if I reflect upon myself, I'm totally a different being. Once someone said to me, "No pressure means no diamonds" , and her words are proven true in my case. Pressure established me a brand in every domain. She is none other than my mentor, Ms. Nitisha Yadav. Her constant support, affection and motivation helped me a lot to overcome difficulties. She is my superhero.
