Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also are trying to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.

So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Avishek Majumdar. He is the Principal of The Study Senior Secondary School, Udaipur. Founded in 1982, The Study was built on the principle that every child has an inherent ability to learn.

Also watch the one-on-one conversation of Avishek Majumdar with Deepti Beri, Director at Curious Times at the end of this article.

When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator? I was a learning disabled child and as you can imagine, there were some challenges. But, I could find my place in this competitive world because my teacher helped me to believe in what I was doing. This motivated me to take teaching as my hobby to help those who needed it the most. Then, I changed my hobby to a profession in 2001 after the World Trade Centre incident of September 11, 2001.

Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success? I actually started teaching professionally without a B.Ed. degree. I worked for 2 years and then thought of doing B.Ed. Special Education- MR from RCI. Completing this curriculum from both the University and Hospital along with teaching at school was the toughest task I had to do during my initial days. Unfortunately, I also did not receive adequate support from the school. However, I am happy to say that I still could make it to Rank 1 in Gujarat in 2005 and all India Rank 31.

What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes? The changes were very discouraging as we were more innovative during our times and were very could handle the pressures better. Today, I feel we are forcing our students to have innovative ideas (which were natural during our times) and they can also be poor at handling pressure at the workstation.

What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this? Natural teachers are the need of an hour. Most of the teachers are by force and not by choice. It’s good that the government has given thought to this and has started an integrated course for the aspirants. Also, there are skill-based courses that a student can opt-in to during grade 11. We as teachers have the biggest role to counsel parents to help the child to pursue their own dreams.

Share your message with the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow. If we have 100% intent, we will have 100% implementation and then we can make a 100% impact. Focus on planning and learning outcomes will make it sure.

Share your message for your and Curious Times students. Nothing can make your teacher more proud than seeing being recognized and appreciated in whatever you do. All of you have potential in you and I know you will achieve what you dream. Recognize the opportunities, identify the challenges and make your own path of success. Every success story will delight us and make us proud that we were a part of your life someday.
