Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also try to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.

So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Mrs Anju Vedi. She is the Principal of Greenfingers Global School, Navi Mumbai. The school aims at grooming every child in a holistic manner by developing the mental, physical & spiritual potential of each child.

When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator? The science teacher of my school when I was young was a real inspiration and she is one of the major reasons among others that I pursued a teaching career. Her ability to guide students, her fairness and her scene of justice made me aspire to bring these things into my own classroom. Also, my love of children drew me to teaching students. Moreover, I found it very interesting to help other fellow students in their studies.

Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success? Throughout my career, I have faced many challenges like, inspiring students to be more self-directed, improving learning outcomes, differentiating and personalizing teaching, getting the students to do their work outside the classroom, finding the time to keep up with administrative tasks, understanding changing technology & parental involvement. I overcome these challenges by using my time effectively & efficiently and also by facing the challenges positively.

What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes? Teaching has evolved & adapted itself well with the changing times. E-learning is central to most academic programs. Teachers are leading everywhere, apps are used frequently, mobile learning has become an integral part wherein the students can get up from their desks and walk around in ways that enable learning. Additionally, students and teachers are always connected, while digital games is also a new entrant in the world of the teaching-learning process technology which surely has potential.

Information is everywhere but wisdom is scarce in the 21st century. The job of the teacher has become more demanding & challenging as we have to provide the right & correct information to students wherein they are having access to all information at their fingertips.

What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this? Not everyone can afford the education system that we have. So, that needs to be addressed. What also needs to be done urgently is to eradicate rote learning from schools at all levels. There should also be an evaluation system that accords equal respect to all subjects; there should be better training of educators and the introduction of technology. We also need to personalize education and above all, the education system should teach the students the purpose of education. Thank god that NEP has the potential of bringing all the above-stated changes.

Share your message with the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow. My sole message for the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow is – adaptability, organisation, emotional intelligence, communication and vision. All the above skills have the potential of creating a better you.

Share your message for your and Curious Times students. Don’t study to earn but study to learn. What you learn today is what you will become tomorrow
