Ed Leader – Mrs. Aparna Seebaluck, Cambridge School, Srinivaspuri, New Delhi
Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. We also try to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.
So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Mrs. Aparna Seebaluck. She is the Principal of Cambridge School, Srinivaspuri, New Delhi. Cambridge School, Srinivaspuri is an institution where students are empowered to learn in their own way and find their destiny.
When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator? I was inspired by my own teachers to enter the world of education. And always wanted to include innovation in the field of education since learning should not trigger boredom. My biggest motivation has been the students I have worked with and taught over the year. This has given me the opportunity to comprehend their educational needs.
Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success? My career journey has faced many hurdles including trying to create a better administration, making teachers get familiar with technology, and inculcating new strategies after assessing students’ learning outcomes. With diligence, research and hard work, I have converted these challenges into opportunities to improve and contribute to society.
What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes? The biggest change is the shift towards E-learning and remote learning. Apart from that, the modern learner expects equity, identity formation and active engagement. These changes are certainly desirable in tandem with advanced teaching methodology as well as child-centric education.
What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this? Our education system has progressed a lot but we still need to eliminate rote learning, develop a standardized evaluation system and inculcate holistic development in all children. The government needs to give opportunities to teachers and students alike to participate in national as well as international exchange programmes. The teachers need to incorporate 21st-century skills in their teaching methodology which should also be inter-disciplinary. Finally, the students and parents need to welcome the modern education system by exploring, introspecting and imbibing.
Share your message with the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow. To quote John Hattie’s words; “Teachers should build classroom climates where errors are welcome, student engagement is the norm, questioning is high and students gain reputations as effective learners”. A true leader leads by giving opportunities for self-expression to his/her followers.
Share your message for your and Curious Times students. All children should feel empowered to succeed through self-evaluation. The focus should be on strengthening the character and with that, the vision to achieve will automatically channelise one’s path.
