Ed Leader – Raina Krishnatray, Delhi World Public School Greater Noida
Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also try to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.
So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Raina Krishnatray. She is the Principal of Delhi World Public School Greater Noida. The school aims to integrate the best ideas in education taken from all good practices in India and around the world.
When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator? I stepped into the world of education in 2001. The fact that Educators have the passion and power to influence and transform lives motivated me to become an educator.
Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success? I have faced a lot of challenges while working in various capacities in the School System.
But I have been able to take the challenges in stride with an insightful analytical approach wherein the root cause of an issue is figured out and resolution or troubleshooting is done with immediate effect. All is this done keeping in mind a win-win result.
What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes? Over the years I have observed that teachers have become more approachable and flexible. They have transformed from teachers to educators. The conventional teaching methodologies are now largely complemented with Interdisciplinary Learning, Multiple Intelligence Approach, Experiential Learning, Project-based Learning and Art Integration as well. Also, the curriculum content delivery has changed in very many versatile and interesting ways owing to the influx of IT.
The Assessment methods and patterns too have variety now and test the critical and creative thinking skills of the children. Differential Teaching and Inclusion is followed more than ever before. Yes, I am absolutely happy with the present day child-centric approach towards learning.
What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this? I really wish to see that the students be able to make an informed choice of subjects from a variety of subjects right after Class VIII. We should also encourage them to do fieldwork and genuine community service in Old Age Homes Shelter Homes, Charitable Hospitals, Animal Shelters must be made compulsory and should reflect in the Progress Report as well. Community service must be an essential component to be considered as criteria for College Admissions.
The race and obsession with extremely high scores should be slowed down to enable all the learners to feel worthy in whatever field they are doing well. Aptitude tests should also be given more weightage.
Stakeholders must be positive and have faith in each and every child. They should not have unrealistic lofty expectations. The children must be made to feel happy for who they are and their accomplishments; whether they are small or big, they must be appreciated.
Share your message with the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow. Teaching is a passion that transcends the profession. I suggest that only those who have tons of positivity and patience should take up this responsibility as it requires total dedication and undying commitment. But indeed, it is immensely gratifying at the end of the day!
Share your message for your and Curious Times students. Dear lovely and awesome children, do not ever be scared of trying anything new or expressing yourself. Play a lot, keep fit and eat well to stay healthy. Be kind to others and be compassionate to the animals. Do meaningful activities that make you happy!
