ED Leader – Roja Paul K, Niraj International School, Hyderabad
Education is an integral part of a child’s upbringing. We, at Curious Times, have made it our aim to ensure that we also play an active role in imparting the right knowledge to all the Curious children. As such, we also are trying to ensure that we are always in touch with the leaders in education today and learning from them. After all, it is important to learn from the best.
So, today, we present to you a one-on-one conversation with Roja Paul K. She is the Principal of Niraj International School, Hyderabad. The school uses teaching, sports, arts, drama to help develop children into well-rounded personalities. It also promotes an evolved curriculum that is concept-based, rather than merely being content-driven.
When did you decide to step into the world of education? What motivated you to become an Educator? I stepped into the world of education on 6 June 1996. I wanted to become an educator because I wanted the power to be able to change lives one at a time.
Share some of the challenges you have faced in your career journey. How did you convert those challenges into the pillars of success? As an educator, we do face many challenges. One of them includes dealing with members of the staff when we have differences and are unable to come to a middle ground. I have also found it challenging to deal with difficult parents who are hard to convince. But thankfully, all these challenges have helped me to grow as a more mature leader/ individual who can now navigate all situations.
What are the changes have you observed over the years in the field of education? Are you happy with these changes? Over the years, I have observed that the quality of students, the quality of teachers, and the expectations of management have greatly improved.
What changes would you like to see in the field of Education? What role can the various stakeholders like the government, teachers, students and parents play in this? Education has to be more skill-based. We should align ourselves towards a more skill-based mode of education. This will benefit all stakeholders.
Share your message with the aspiring teachers and leaders of tomorrow. Teaching is a powerful profession – don’t get into this profession for monetary gains. What we do as teachers is beyond that kind of material remuneration.
Share your message for your and Curious Times students. Be interested in everything you do. Be genuinely curious to learn about the whys, the hows and the whats.
