India & US are education allies

India & the US are natural allies in the field of education

Union Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan said that India and the US are natural allies in the field of education. There is great potential to strengthen the collaboration between the two countries.

The Education Minister stated that the educational institutions in India and the US can collaborate by interlinking industry, academia and policymakers. He stated about the India-US partnership, during the virtual round-table conference organized by the Embassy of India. The objective of the roundtable meeting was “The advancing India-US Education Partnership”.

The Education Minister stated that the NEP (National Education Policy) by India has opened the mobility of students across the globe. NEP 2020 has opened the doors for research partnerships across the globe and also, for beneficial collaboration for education. Adding to NEP, India’s education system must be ready to align with global aspirations.

Round Table Conference

This round table conference was attended by Presidents, Chancellors and representatives from 20 American Universities. The American participants agreed to the fact that National Education Policy was a good initiative. They also stated that the removal of restrictions from the field of education would be beneficial for both India and US on all fronts.

The representatives from most American universities said that they would like to collaborate with India on specific topics of their interest. The topics include cybersecurity, healthcare, biotech, artificial intelligence, data sciences, agriculture, climate change and sustainability.

Government’s Plan for India-US partnership

India’s Ambassador to the US, Taranjit Singh Sandhu said that the Office of International Affairs has been set up in more than 150 universities across India. He said that new guidelines had been issued for India’s higher education institutes. They can now move ahead in research at the international level. Moreover, the government has proposed to set a national research foundation to improve the research system in the country.

Taranjit further said that the new guidelines can bring more opportunities to US institutions. Since India has increased its interactions with American institutions, we can hope for two-way student and research flexibility. Students from the US can now do short term courses with Indian institutions.
