A beautiful friendship between a girl and a bumblebee

What is a bumblebee?

This is a type of bee insect that is part of Apidae, one of the bee families. They are found mostly in colder places in the Northern Hemisphere. They are usually social insects that form colonies with a single queen.

Lacey Shillinglaw is a 13-year-old teen girl living in Coventry, England. Recently, she made a new friend – a bumblebee!

A few weeks ago, Lacey saw a large bumblebee lying in the road while walking her dog. When she looked closely, she found that it had a crumpled wing. She shifted the bumblebee to a safer spot but after that, it kept following her.

Over time, she tried many times to make the bumblebee go outside but the bee would not go away.

An amazing friendship

So, Lacey has decided to keep the bumblebee as her pet. She named it ‘Betty’ and now, Betty goes wherever Lucy does.

Lacey feeds the bumblebee sugar water, honey and strawberry jam. At night, Betty sleeps in a jar next to Lacey’s bed. Betty loves to stay close to Lacey and is always in her sleeves or hair. Lacey says that this surprising friendship has really made her happy.
