A new technology turns steel waste into pure metal
Recommended for Secondary Grades
Recently, a new technology is introduced that converts steel waste into molten metal without the use of electricity. This venture is launched by Satinder Nath Gupta and Sandeep Gupta.
What is pyrometallurgy?
Pyrometallurgy means using high temperatures to extract the pure form of a metal
Important Details
- Reusing the steel waste produced by steel companies seemed to be a good idea to Mr Satinder Gupta. His son, Sandeep, liked the idea too and they started to experiment with the steel waste.
- The new technology introduced by the father-son duo requires focus to do the task but no electricity is needed. It is based on pyrometallurgy.
- This process is based on a number of different parameters as listed below:
- Raw material and its composition
- Heat and viscosity of the metal
- Amount of mixing and stirring needed for the metal
- The metal goes through a physical and chemical transformation during the process, thus, yielding the pure metal. High temperatures are used to melt the materials in just 5 minutes. Therefore, this process is ideal environmentally and also saves energy.
- The heat released during one reaction serves as the source of energy for the next reaction. Thus, electricity is also saved with this technology.
Launch of Green Trek
- Satisfied by numerous experiments, they launched Green Trek in Jammu in 2019. They obtained 99 per cent pure metal as per their experiments.
- Green Trek is headed by Sandeep and it is focused on green steel, which is believed to be the future of the steel industry.
