B.S. Yediyurappa is the new Chief Minister of Karnataka

B.S. Yediyurappa of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) became the 31st Chief Minister of Karnataka on 26th July.

This is Yediyurappa's fourth time as Chief Minister. He will take the floor test on 29th July to prove his majority in the legislative assembly.
 	He has become the CM after the resignation of the Congress-JD(S) coalition government.
 	Mr Yediyurappa is expected to decide on his cabinet members after consulting with BJP president Amit Shah.

The Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) leaders boycotted the swearing-in ceremony in protest.

Mr Yediyurappa’s first announcements as CM were incentives for farmers and weavers.

He said that the state government would give an additional sum of ₹4,000 to farmers. This comes under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
 	He also announced a waiver* of loans that weavers took before 31st March 2019.

Currently, 106 MLAs support the BJP in the legislative assembly of 222. Three MLAs have been disqualified. The resignations of 13 rebel MLAs from the Congress and JD(S) which led to the fall of the previous coalition government is still pending with the Speaker.
