Brazil announces equal pay for men’s and women’s national football teamsWhile women's football is gaining popularity, there is a still huge gap in what male and female football players are paid.  Many female football players are fighting for equality in pay and treatment.

In an important step towards gender equality, Brazil has announced that players of both the men's and women's national football teams will be paid the same amount.

The announcement was made last week by the Brazilian Football Federation (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol; CBF).

This new policy means that every Brazillian national football player will receive equal amount per match and prize money while playing for the country.

Brazil joins Australia, England, Norway and New Zealand in working towards gender equality in football.

Last year, the US national women's football team started a court case against its governing body U.S. Soccer. It was protesting against discrimination in earnings and working conditions. A court dismissed the case in May 2020.
