Chandni Chowk is a prominent place where people go to eat paranthas. The Paranthe wali Gali is the name of a narrow street in the Chandni Chowk area of Delhi.
Paranthe wali Gali (or Gali Paranthe Wali) literally means ‘the bylane of flatbread’. This place is famous for shops that sell paranthas.
It is believed that a person named Pandit Gaya Prasad Paranthewala opened the first parantha shop here.
Interesting facts about Paranthas!
Parantha, as many of you already know, is a kind of flatbread, often stuffed with vegetables.
- You get many kinds of vegetarian paranthas at the shops in the Paranthe wali Gali.
- However, these paranthas do not have garlic or onion either.
- Unlike paranthas made at home, the paranthas here are deep-fried in a ‘kadhai’ (big frying pot).
- You can also try some unique paranthas here.
- They have paranthas filled with cashew nuts, almonds, peas, khoya (a dairy product), ladyfinger, etc.
- People also enjoy the sweet lassi, often served in kulhads (mud cups), here.
